Creating Chicken Road was a labor of love that took our team over 18 months to complete. What began as a simple concept quickly evolved into something much more complex and engaging as we iteratively refined the gameplay mechanics. Our development journey was filled with challenges, from perfecting the procedurally generated roads to fine-tuning the difficulty curve to ensure players always feel challenged but never frustrated.
One of our biggest challenges was designing the character movement system. We wanted controls that were intuitive enough for anyone to pick up, while still allowing for precise movements required in later levels. After dozens of prototypes and testing sessions, we settled on our current control scheme which balances accessibility with depth.
The art style evolved significantly throughout development. We experimented with pixel art, 2D vector graphics, and finally settled on our current 3D stylized approach. This allowed us to create more dynamic environments and character animations while maintaining the charming, lighthearted feel we wanted for the game.
